The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is designed to help owners and managers of rental properties keep drugs and other illegal activity off their property. The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program calls on police, property management and tenants to enter into a partnership to improve the health of the community and quality of life for the residents in the Town of Gilbert by reducing crime. Completion of the program is obtained through three separate phases.
The first phase of the Crime-Free Program is for property managers and owners to attend a one-day Crime-Free workshop which covers such things as; implementing a Drug and Crime-Free Lease Addendum, documenting incidents, working with police and landlord/tenant issues.
After attending the one-day Crime-Free Workshop, the property manager must then contact the Gilbert Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (480)503-6527 to schedule a Security Evaluation as phase two. Once all Security Evaluation deficiencies have been completed and the apartment community passes its Crime-Free Property re-inspection, the manager will receive a Crime-Free Certificate of Completion.
As phase three of the program, the property owner or manager will be responsible for hosting a Crime-Free community social wherein the Crime Prevention Unit will explain the benefits and importance of the Crime-Free Program to the residents. After full completion of the above steps, the rental community will then be able to post Crime-Free Program signage throughout their property. These signs will indicate that the rental community is taking all steps possible to ensure the safety of their residents by participating and being involved in the Crime-Free Multi-Housing Program.
