Gilbert offers a wide variety of activities and programs for residents with Special Needs. Activities include dances, bowling, karaoke, cheerleading, movies and more. All of our programs and activities are designed to be fun, with an emphasis on meeting people and establishing new friendships.

Special Needs Programs


The following Special Needs Events will be held at the Gilbert Community Center. Events are for participants 14+years.

*Make A Splash Pool Party at Lifetime Fitness (381 East Warner Road, Gilbert) 6:30-8:30pm Friday, July 16th, 2010
*Movie in the Park at Gilbert Community Center (130 N. Oak St) 6:30-8:30pm Friday, September 24th, 2010 (8+ years)
*Karaoke Night at Gilbert Community Center (130 N. Oak St) 6-9pm-Friday, August 20th, 2010
*Halloween Dance at Gilbert Community Center (130 N. Oak St) 6:30-9pm, Friday, October 29th, 2010

Bingo Nights - This program is designed for persons with special needs to get together, play some friendly games of bingo, and just hang out. We will have prizes and snacks for all to enjoy. This is a great way to meet new friends! Light refreshments will be offered. This event will be held at the Gilbert Community Center, 130 N. Oak.

Special Olympics Arizona - Learm about Special Olympics by visiting their website. For individuals participating in our Winter Cheerleading and Fall Bowling programs, please download the Special Olympics Athletic Medical Release Form. For individuals wanting to join the Winter Cheerleading or Unified Flag Football, please download the Unified Sports Partner Release Form.

Ways you can get involved:

  • Bowling - Interact with and encourage bowlers, help develop friendships and record scores.
  • Special Olympics Unified Cheerleading - Assist in coaching and/or participate in routines and help strengthen self-esteem.
  • Recreation Classes - Assist recreation instructors with their classes.
  • Friday Night Events - Socialize with the participants, assist with various responsibilities associated with carrying out the event
