LOCAL ASSISTANCE
Gilbert Community Action Program (CAP)
1140 N. Gilbert Road, Gilbert, AZ
Phone: 480-892-5331The Gilbert Community Action Program (CAP) provides emergency assistance to Gilbert residents who are experiencing a financial crisis. CAP staff determines eligibility and counsels each client in need. Depending on the situation, CAP may provide assistance in paying a mortgage, rent or utility payment, finding transportation or child care, or assisting with payment of a prescription for a critical medication. The CAP office is a one-stop intake and referral office for many services. Staff also follows up with clients to ensure they are receiving the type of help they need. The efforts of the CAP office help avoid homelessness and prevent a short-term emergency from turning into a long-term crisis.

TOWN SUPPORT
Homelessness, hunger, and most other social needs are regional issues that affect the entire metro Phoenix area. The Town of Gilbert supports area social service agencies through both Town general funds and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. These funding sources have supported several different types of homeless services by area agency providers including Central Arizona Shelter Services, an emergency shelter provider; La Mesita, an emergency shelter for families; Save the Family which operates a transitional shelter for families working to obtain permanent housing; and the East Valley Men’s Center, a residence for single homeless men. Other programs supported by the Town include Gilbert CAP, Gilbert Senior Center, and Shoebox Ministry. The Town also participates in the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Human Services Technical Committee and Maricopa HOME Consortium.
